At mythirdjersey, every product is built with meticulous attention to detail and made to stand the test of time. Caring for your kit the right way is a big part of ensuring it lasts as long as possible. If you’re looking to keep your gear performing for years, you’re in the right place.
What do you need help with?
General Care
Giving garments the right care significantly extends their lifespan (and your enjoyment wearing them). Use this quick guide and our video tutorials to keep your clothes in top condition.
- Wash less
Before you throw something in the machine, try airing it outside or hanging it in a steamy bathroom. Don’t use the washer as a “tidying tool”. Over-washing damages fibres and shortens life. Traditional dry cleaning uses harsh chemicals that flatten natural fibres and can also reduce longevity. - Wash at low temperatures
When a wash is needed, choose lower temperatures and a natural detergent to reduce fading and fibre stress. (Items in close contact with skin like towels/bedding may need a higher temperature.) - Read the care label
Different fabrics need different care. Check max temperature and spin. (e.g., wool should have no spin.) - Cut down on dry cleaning
Many delicate “dry clean only” items can be carefully washed cold on low spin. If dry cleaning is essential, choose non-toxic / eco cleaners. - Use eco laundry products
Standard detergents may contain fossil-based, non-biodegradable substances. Look for plant-derived, biodegradable, refillable options. - Wash inside out & don’t overfill
Inside-out reduces abrasion on the face fabric; avoid overloading, which increases friction and fibre damage. - Air dry first; tumble when needed
Air drying is better for both garments and planet. Shake out creases, line-dry or hang; dry knits flat.
For insulation, a low-heat tumble helps restore water-repellency and DWR durability on mythirdjersey pieces. - Store properly
Keep garments clean and dry, away from damp, heat and sunlight. Give your wardrobe breathing space. Use wooden or padded hangers; store knits with lavender to deter moths. - Repair early
Fix small issues when you first notice them. This keeps items out of landfill, lowers carbon emissions, and deepens your bond with the piece. - Alter to fit / refresh style
Simple alterations (hemming, taking in a waist) can revive favourites. Our mythirdjersey online services can help with hems.
Stain Removal (Quick Reference)
- Wax: Cover with plain brown paper (no shiny side) and press with a warm iron; move paper as it absorbs the wax.
- Red Wine: Dab with water; add salt (cashmere/silk: dry shampoo), brush out and wash. For shadows, apply shaving foam, rest, then rinse.
- Coffee: Rinse with mineral or warm tap water. If dry, apply salt/baking soda and brush gently.
- Oil/Fat: Blot with paper towels; wash with hot water + dish soap. Use solid bile soap for set stains. For delicate fabrics (e.g., silk) use alcohol.
- Make-up: For non-sensitive fabrics, bile soap or baking soda; otherwise use a stain spray/remover before machine wash.
- Sweat: Soak overnight in warm water with a dash of vinegar; rinse cold, then normal wash.
- Water Marks: Mix bile soap with warm water and rub generously.
